Thailand is one of the major exporters of fresh fruits and as such, visitors here can surely enjoy delicious and cheap fruits they don’t normally eat at home. Tropical fruits are abundant in this country with some of them you may have not even heard before in your entire life.
Some fruits native in Thailand can also be found in other Asian countries. These are the banana, jackfruit, coconut, guava, grape, pineapple, papaya, lychee, pomelo, tangerine and watermelon. Some rare fruits you can taste while visiting the country are rambutan, durian or the so-called king of fruits, rose apple, mangosteen, sapodila, custard apple and longan.
Apart from the sweet fruits, the others have tastes that may at first seem strange to you. The mangosteen, for instance, has a mix of sweet and sour taste while the durian has a unique taste and smell you won’t find anywhere else. They can be eaten as snacks or as desserts and can be prepared in many different ways as well.
The best place to buy these inexpensive but nutritious fruits is at the floating market. There you can haggle from boat-riding vendors early in the morning as they go through the river to sell their agricultural produce to local residents and foreign tourists.
Other than its geographical location being situated in the tropical region and its climate, there are other reasons why Thailand is home to a wide range of quality fruits. For one thing, it boasts of a fertile soil. In addition, it is able to accommodate new species from other foreign countries. Additional factors are the use of scientific methods in growing the fruits and the length of the Thai country which enables it to grow fruits even in higher latitudes.
